SMALL HISTORY ON PAYOLA
Payola, a term derived from "pay" and "Victrola," refers to the unethical practice of record labels or artists paying DJs or radio stations to play their music and promote it to the public. This practice dates back to the early days of radio broadcasting in the 1940s, where it was widespread but eventually became illegal due to its manipulative nature and unfair advantages it gave to those with the financial means to participate in such activities.
