Before Sunday: An International Flavor
Before Sunday was originally formed in Thessaloniki, Greece, and is currently based in London’s thriving music scene. Although they personally consider themselves an indie rock band, their energetic melodies and contemplative lyrics blend beautifully with alternative rock and soulful storytelling to transcend classification.
Band Members
Before Sunday features Nick Basis on the guitar, Stella Panteloudi as the female front vocalist, and (joined as a session drummer) the famous Eleni Nota. Eleni is a member of several metal rock bands in Greece: Before Sunday, Bring Back Persephone, and Meet the Makers, just to name a few. When these three get together they weave raw emotions into a tapestry of sounds that vibrantly resonate with audiences.
Their Music Styles
When I turned on Spotify to listen to their music, I was simply blown away by the rhythmic and danceable music—which would then switch to alternative rock or soulful paeon. Their albums are full of different types of genres. Even my housemates wondered who I was listening to because it’s amazing to hear so many styles done so well by a single band.
Before Sunday has two full albums and three singles. I will share my thoughts on both.
Anticipation: This is their debut album from April 2022. I think it feels more “poppy” with a bit of rock and metal mixed in.
Eternal Odyssey: Their second album was released in February 2023 and will soon be issued on vinyl.
In most of the songs the lovely voice of Stella Panteloudi will be leading, but in “Free” and “No Inspiration” you’ll get to hear Nick take front as Stella performs backup vocals.
The song “Tzitziki” is one of their first singles and is featured in both albums, with Eleni Nota on drums.
Eternal Odyssey incorporates a greater variety of genres, particularly rock and metal.
These are my thoughts on their Music, but don’t care my words for it. They are on Spotify, YouTube,, Social media and on the side panel.
Upcoming Projects
Before Sunday is not working on a third album just yet, focusing instead on live shows and music festivals. Their 2nd EP “Eternal Odyssey:” is about to come out in Vinyl, you can pre-order it [ here ]
A Small History Of Thessaloniki, Greece
In case you want to learn about Before Sunday’s origins in Thessaloniki, Greece, here is a little bit of history. It was founded in 315 BC and named for a sister of Alexander the Great. After 148 BC, the city became the capital of the Roman province of Macedonia. As a military and commercial station on the Via Egnatia, which ran from the Adriatic Sea east to Byzantium (Constantinople), it grew to great importance in the Roman Empire.
Funny Bits:
When I got the opportunity to write up this band, I did a Google search of “Before Sunday”. Google told me, “It is a day after Saturday and before Monday.” So make sure you enter “Before Sunday band”!
When I looked up what “Tzitziki” meant, I learned it is a Greek sauce made from yogurt, garlic, and cucumbers. Yum!
